Matthew 21:23-27   And when he was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto him as he was teaching, and said, By what authority doest thou these things?   and who gave thee this authority?   And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell me, I in likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things.   The baptism of John, whence was it?   from heaven?   or of men?   And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven;   he will say unto us, Why then did ye not believe him?   But if we shall say, Of men;  we fear the people;  for all hold John as a prophet.   And they answered Jesus, and said, We cannot tell.   And he said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things.

Luke 7:29-30   And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptised with the baptism of John.   But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him.

Samaritans Refuse Jesus

Luke 9:51-56   And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he steadfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, And sent messengers before his face:   and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.   And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem.   And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord,  wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elijah did?   But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of.   For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them.   And they went to another village.
